Ups.........coz Pune isn't feminine, it's it! whereas Mumbai IS feminine as in one can say Ti Mumbai but its Te Pune!!
And yeah, Marathis is confusing to say the least! But Dumbo, you are Marathi you know for all practical purposes, so high time you properly start taking classes from me ;)

And isn't it perfectly Puneri, two of us are fighting ad soon we shall get everyone to discuss the matter and resolve the issue collectively!! How Apt!! ;)

And dumbo please mala maaz allowed ahe :(

@Ups, Mads 'n Sir -

Its okie if you know the gender of stupid inanimate objects in one language. But, learning gender of the same object in 3 or more languages is pretty cumbersome.

For eg.
Computadora (español, latin America) - Feminino
Ordernador (español, Spain) - Masculino
K(C)omputer (Deutsch) - Maskulinum.
Marathi - God knows what it is!!

The list could go on. but these are the langauges I need to keep track of.

And even if we go with your logic dumbo, why do two places have different genders?? Why is Mumbai feminine and Pune, neuter gender. In fact, the female:male sex-ratio of Pune is 5% more than mumbai.

I conclude English (inglés) is perfectly perfect (oh how repetitive!!). No genders for inanimate objects. And surely makes a lot sense too. So for all 'practical' purposes, henceforth I'm freely going to use any gender for inanimate objects.
I rest my case.

Ani dumbo... maaz perfectly allowed aahe. When sir 'n shaan can maaz such a lot, then... yada yada...

I guess that
"Two guys are fighting when Nene comes out of the neighbouring vada and points to the 'He Nenyancha ghar aahe. Ghara samor kontyahi prakarchi gardi kiwwa awaj karu naye' sign"
would also apply to aple Pune na!

I heard a version where, a family comes out to the fighting duo holding a sign, "Amchya Ghara samor bhandu naka, shezarchya ghari samor zaon bhanda"... thats Pune!!

@Ashutosh & Schrodinger - I loved both your versions. In fact, i'll add a link to my website where folks can submit their own versions. That would be my next post. :-)

@Bapatanu - Typo - Its ruckus not rukus. About me being devoid of ideas - See this blog has triggered so many more ideas and virtues. So think twice before commenting ;)

@consu - kay zale???

Join any software sompany and u wud kno tht :)
and of late someone told me tht blogs cut a lot of distances..hence..the responses here r out of interest, and not cos ppl r diff/trying to b diff; it doesnt matter whether it is a virtue or not..infact u cant classify everythin as a virtue and a vice...:)

Actually, the correct way of saying it is Amche Pune. I did not make that up. Go ask Pu La Deshpande - maybe he made it up.

And in Pune, the scenario is usually like this.

Two guys start fighting.
A small crowd gathers and in seconds a gentleman comes along (or lady) and shouts at the two chumps who are fighting. He says, "Go fight in front of someone else's house, not mine." And the fight breaks up. If it is a lady doing the screaming, it might be "Melyanno, ajoon koNacha ghar miLala nahi? Majhayach gharasamor bhanDayachay? FuTa ata ithoon."

Prakash, who said there are no assigned genders to inanimate objects in English? Ever heard a sailor refer to his ship? She may be a supertanker carrying 100,000 gallons of crude, but she's always a she. A guy's bike is always a she. A computer is always a he. e.g. My computer. He's such a bastard.

And if you want to speak a language, you must learn the genders associated with objects within it.

Interestingly, if you give a Google search for 'Amche Pune', it asks you, 'Did you mean 'Amchi Pune' '? :))

Yes, well, google is not exactly literate. It is a fleet, an astoundingly, mindbogglingly massive fleet of trained parrots.
