One Helluva Adventure
Got up at 6:00 in the morning to witness the greatest sunrises in the history of State College. Seemed to be the perfect day for a trek. But god damn I had to give the most stupid Driver’s License written exam. So kept reading it with occasional naps in between.
Packed my bags ‘n boarded the bus for a long ride. 15 miles outta town. Reached the mall ‘n boarded the second bus ‘n to my ‘horror’ the bus was a old age home special. It was a trip of the old age home down the country-side. The average age in the bus was 65 (including mine acutally) :-o. And then they started asking all sorts of weird questions like who my girlfriend is and stuff like that. All the while I was eyeing at my escape route – the door. Finally, freedom came at noon. The driver bus pulled over ‘n the driver told me that the next bus would be in two hours back to the mall!!
Got down from the bus and was awestruck. Juz one small cottage in the middle-of-nowhere. Till the horizon, I couldn’t see a single soul. It was freaky – direct from the Ram Gopal Verma flicks. I ran back to the bus – but was too late. It already speed away with my ‘old’ friends. Went to the driver’s centre. Showed all documents. Was ready to take the test, when one officer came up to me ‘n said that one of the letters from my employer was outdated. Bloody hell. Was planning to shower the choicest abuses. Was shown the escape route again.
Came out. Next bus in 2 hours!! Fields, rivers, hills, bridges ‘n jungles was all I could see. No options. Started singing ‘Deewana Mein chala’ and hit the road. Thought would be a helluva adventure down the country-side. Not to mention the frequent stares from passer-bys. Seemed the perfect day for the trek. Bright sunshine – cool breeze and the sweet tune of the cuckoo!!! Couldn’t be more perfect a trek. 10 miles to walk.
Was kinda exciting though. When a humble soul thought I was hitch-hiking and offered me a ride back to campus. And with his dog – Caesar, we drove back. Was exciting meeting this guy, who knew India as being the out-sourcing territory of the US. And there it started. Told him that India was more t it. And then started the 'Discovery of India'. Pandit Nehru would be totally humbled if he had heard my version today 'n Mother India would be proud to know of this true Indian at the darkest corners of the earth who has perfected the dates of Indian History. (And while we were talking Caesar gave a perfect wash by licking all over.) Couldn’t have asked for more!!!
