“Patiti” Devo Bhavaha – The love of an Indian Woman

I picked this from one of the books, I'm reading about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. This is an extract from one of the letters his brother wrote. Maybe they might not be applicable in this present century or may not be applicable at all. Who cares!!! But still I found it pretty interesting and thought-provoking and the nerve of this person to write such a 'controversial' statement in the early twentieth century. Here is how it goes....

“The love of an Indian woman has for her husband was of less value than the one a Western woman has for hers because an Indian woman's love for her husband is a duty, while a Western woman first falls in love with a man and then gets married; which placed a higher value of her love. Love of a woman of good character is more praiseworthy than love of a woman of good character in our country because she has liberty here and must have strength of character.”
